Toshiba announced that they have shown the use of quantum cryptography to transfer massive data of 90B sequences of nucleotides to Tohoku Univ. Medical Megabank Organization in about 1min 50sec. The genome information was analyzed and produced by the next generation sequencer.

Sony Semi-conductor Solutions developed an image sensor that has sensitivity in the range of 1000nm IR region. Since differences in material are clearly shown by use of this IR image sensor, it may be useful to agriculture, food industries, security, and medical measurement. For instance, thin Silicone wafer looks transparent like a glass in this IR wavelength region.

Nippon Syokubai in collaboration with NHK has developed a thin injection OLED material that can be used as a flexible film light source --- less than a sheet of paper. They used a polarization-type OLED material with an organic base instead of an alkali metal; thereby they achieved stability as well as durability of OLED material.

Green Science Alliance announced that they made graphite-like Carbon Nitride C3N4 available in mass-production. Unlike TiO2 which utilizes only UV region of light, EM radiation, Carbon Nitride utilizes visible region of light. Thereby, it is expected to be used in production of hydrogen gas, and in efficient artificial photosysnthesis, etc.

Researchers at Kyoto Univ. and Mie Univ. found that a nanometer-thin film of metalic Pt (Platinum) formed on YIG (Yttrium-Iron-Garnet) substrate showed semi-conductor characteristics reducing its resistance by half. Furthermore, it showed even the modulation of spin flow to current by as much as 280%. They say that this result might be applied to a new kind of memory devices in spintronics.

It was published in Scienctific Reports that a vast amount of mud containing rare-earth elements, such as 39Y (Ytrrium), 65Tb (Terbium), 66Dy (Dysprosium), was found at Minami-Torishima Island in the south of Japan. The research was conducted by the University of Tokyo, Waseda Univ., and others.
Note: rare-earth elements are defined in IUPAC: 21Sc, 39Y, and 14 Lanthanides: 57La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, plus 71Lu.

National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) announced that they developed one-electron modulation and generated a pulse of square wave consisting of any number of electrons. It will make it possible to measure femto or atto Ampere on a nano-scale structure and to contribute to the development of future spintronics.

University of Kyushu, Japan, announced that the research team has developed the molecule for generating hydrogen utilizing near infrared region of light spectra. As a result of using the longer wave length, the efficacy of utilizing light energy is shown to increase about two-fold.

Showa Shell Sekiyu announced that they developed Artificial Photosysnthesis to produce CH4 at the rate of 0.61% and C2H4 0.1%, respectively. They say that they further make efforts in increasing the rate of conversion in order to contribute to sustainable society in the future.

Hitachi announced that they developed a 'lens-less' camera, which utilizes special films to gather information on light. It can adjust a focus to make the image clearer even after the image has been recorded.

NICT (National Institute of Information and Communications Technology) announced that they developed a projection-type see-through holographic 3D display, which currently shows only in green color. Holographic 3D image is first created by use of 3D Holographic printer on a film, then the reconstructed holographic 3D image was projected onto a target observation area.

A research group of JAEA, Tohoku Univ., and Material Institute announced that they developed transparent material that shows ferromagnetism.

According to a research group at the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering of KYOTO INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, it was discovered that a bacillus resolves PET (Polyethylene Telephtalate) into CO2 and H2 as the final form.

According to the research group of Tokyo Univ. and Tokyo Institute of Technology, they found that the improvement in piezoelectric crystal is made through the rotation of the polarization axis.
